About Carburetor

About carburetor

The carburetor is a mechanical device that uses the vacuum effect generated when the engine takes in air to mix and atomize gasoline and air in a certain proportion.  Its application areas mainly focus on the following aspects:

  • Early automobiles and motorcycles: The carburetor was once the standard fuel supply system for internal combustion engine vehicles and was widely used in automobiles and motorcycles in the mid-to-late 20th century.  It has a simple structure and low cost, and it dominated the market before the popularity of fuel injection technology.
  • Agricultural machinery: In agricultural equipment such as tractors, harvesters, and generators, carburetors are still used in some models due to their durability, ease of maintenance, and lower requirements for fuel quality.
  • Small engine equipment: including lawn mowers, chain saws, water pumps, outboard motors (yacht engines), etc. These equipment have high requirements for cost, reliability and ease of maintenance, and carburetors are still a common choice.
  • Specific motorcycle types: Although modern motorcycles generally use electronic injection systems, some classic models, retro motorcycles, or entry-level scooters in developing countries may still be equipped with carburetors in order to pursue simple structure and convenient maintenance.

It should be noted that with the increasingly stringent environmental regulations and the development of electronic control technology, modern cars and mainstream motorcycles have basically turned to fuel injection systems, and carburetors have become extremely rare in the new car market.  Its current applications are mainly concentrated in specific areas where cost and reliability requirements are higher than emissions and fuel economy.
